The Jaguar Engine Failure Index is built from a proprietary blend of real-world UK data: 24,650 quote requests (4,625 Jaguar-specific), 100+ specialist interviews, and post-sale customer surveys. We track failure patterns, replacement costs and owner decisions. Enquiry volume reflects vehicle parc size and age, not just failure rates - we state our limitations clearly.

What this data is, what it isn't, and how we built it.

Source: Internal CRM quote-request data from EnginesMarket.co.uk and EngineFinders.co.uk, combined. Full calendar year 2025. 24,650 unique quote requests across all brands we cover; 4,625 of these relate specifically to Jaguar engines [EM-VERIFIED].

Triangulation: We don't rely on enquiry data alone. Our Known Failure Patterns table is triangulated from three proprietary channels:

  • Enquiry descriptions - free-text problem statements submitted with quote requests
  • Supplier quote notes - mechanics listing specific failures when quoting
  • Post-sale customer surveys - 100+ customers 3‑6 months after replacement [EM-SURVEY]

These are then cross-referenced with manufacturer TSBs (Tier 1) and public forums / Honest John / Parkers (Tier 2) for validation [THIRD-PARTY].

What counts as an "enquiry": a unique customer quote request specifying a particular engine code or vehicle. Repeat requests from the same customer for the same engine are not double-counted.

What counts as a "failure": a mechanical or electrical issue requiring significant repair or full engine replacement. Minor wear items (e.g., sensors, belts) are not included unless they led directly to a major failure.

Data integrity correction: The original "Top 300" model ranking table in our proprietary data contained a duplicated, decrementing block. We used Section 4's chassis-coded table as ground truth for model-level figures to ensure accuracy [EM-VERIFIED].

Refresh cycle: Annually, each February, covering the prior full calendar year. Figures are locked at time of publication and are not silently revised - any correction is logged on our public Corrections Log rather than edited away.

Limitations - What This Data Cannot Tell You

Our dataset reflects people who contacted us about a replacement engine - it is not a random sample of every Jaguar on UK roads. A higher enquiry count can mean an engine is more failure-prone, or simply that more of that engine exist in the parc, or that it's an older engine reaching typical replacement age. We do not claim failure rates against the total vehicle population; only enquiry share within our own dataset. Request volume ≠ failure rate.

This is our first published edition - 2025 is the baseline year. Every future report, published each February, will compare the previous year's enquiry volumes, failure patterns and cost data against this baseline. We will track:

Initial observations from the 2025 data suggest that the AJ200D Ingenium diesel is the most frequently enquired‑about engine, consistent with its widespread fitment across XE, XF and F‑Pace. The petrol Ingenium (AJ200P) is also strong, reflecting growing interest in petrol alternatives. We expect the AJ126 V6 to remain a steady performer given its presence in older but popular models like the XF X250 and XJ.
